Kidney Foundation Malawi

Background Information

The Kidney Foundation-Malawi (KFM) was formed in 2016 by the kidney failure patients as an independent and voluntary organizations comprising of, Kidney failure patients, Renal Nurses, Doctors, Guardian, stakeholders in the renal services delivery and individuals. The foundation is a member of International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF), World Kidney Day Alliance (WKDA) International Alliance of Patients Organization (IAPO) National Alliance Patients Organizations-Malawi (NAPOM), Global Patient Alliance for Kidney Health (GloPAKH) and The Malawi Non Communicable Disease Alliance. (MW-NCDA)

The founding aim of the Foundation is to support people living with kidney problems, reduce the cases of kidney failure by promoting awareness and advocating for the life style changing in Malawi, lobby the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to prioritize the issues of NCDs in Malawi. The Foundation is gathering and analyzing insights on the problems and challenges faced by people living with Kidney problem and find the possible and sustainable solutions.

Our Objectives

  • To identify the problems and challenges faced by patients and develop sustainable solutions to improve their quality of life.
  • To improve and support renal services in Malawi.
  • To conduct awareness campaigns for the general public on kidney disease and available support services.
  • To provide a common platform for raising awareness on kidney problems in Malawi and reducing specific risk factors.
  • To mobilize resources to support people living with kidney problems.
  • To network dialysis units, healthcare management, and patients to work collaboratively.
  • To advocate for effective kidney disease and NCD prevention and control policies reflecting the needs of people living with NCDs in Malawi.
